  40. ExtraDOS Toolbox is a compilation of tools useful to Microsoft DOS
  41. users.  I originally wrote the first version of ExtraDOS under MS-DOS
  42. because I found a need for them and there were no commercially
  43. available products that provided these functions.  Some ExtraDOS tools
  44. were designed to enhance programs already found in MS-DOS.  Other
  45. tools were familiar to the Unix world, but were not available in
  46. MS-DOS.  Over the years this collection has grown into large group of
  47. very useful tools.  Some of these utilities are duplicates of those
  48. found elsewhere, but often provide much better features or reduced
  49. memory overhead than similar utilities found elsewhere.  In addition,
  50. ExtraDOS complements PC-Tools and Norton Utilities with added tools
  51. these programs do not provide.

  53. Over thirty of the ExtraDOS Toolbox utilities have been selected by
  54. Paul Somerson, former Executive Editor of PC Magazine, for Bantam
  55. Books', DOS Power Tools, 2nd Edition, Revised and Expanded for DOS
  56. 5.0.  Many of the ExtraDOS Toolbox utilities are now appearing in many
  57. popular DOS books that feature shareware enhancements for DOS.

  101.   Upon notification of defects in material or workmanship,
  102.   within the warranty period of 45 days from the date of purchase,
  103.   Foley Hi-Tech Systems will, at its option, replace the defective
  104.   diskette or refund the license fee. If you need to return a product,
  105.   call the Foley Hi-Tech Systems Technical Support Service Department
  106.   to obtain a return authorization number. The remedy for breach of
  107.   this warranty shall be limited to replacement or refund and shall
  108.   not encompass any other damages, including but not limited to loss
  109.   of profit, and special, incidental, consequential, or other similar
  110.   claims.

  143.   Finds and deletes all .BAK and ZERO length files.  Optionally
  144.   search child subdirectories.

  154.   TIDY  [drive] [/P] [/W] [/R] [/Z] [/A] [/L] [/S] [/H] [extension ... ]

  157.   /A  Search all drives.  This mode will search all hard drives in the
  158.       system, including network drives.
  159.  
  160.   /C  Confirmation mode.  This mode will not delete any files until the
  161.       user has confirmed the deletion.
  162.  
  163.   /H  Include hidden files in search.  Also searches hidden directories
  164.       if /S is specified.
  165.  
  166.   /L  List mode.  Lists the files that would be deleted but doesn't
  167.       actually delete them.
  168.  
  169.   /P  Search all physical drives, excludes network drives.
  170.  
  171.   /R  Delete read only files.  Normally tidy will not delete files that
  172.       have the read-only attribute set.  This parameter will override that
  173.       function.
  174.  
  175.   /S  Recurse into subdirectories.  Normally, only the current
  176.       directory is processed.  This switch causes all child
  177.       directories to be processed as well.
  178.  
  179.   /T  Terse operation.  Directory and filenames are suppressed.  Only
  180.       the summary information is displayed.
  181.  
  182.   /X  Execute.  Since TIDY displays help if no command line options are
  183.       issued, this switch is required to execute with the defaults.
  184.  
  185.   /Z  Ignore zero length files.  Some programs require that zero length
  186.       files be kept.  With /Z set no zero length files will be deleted.
  187.

  190.   TIDY displays the name of each file and its size as it is deleted.
  191.   Also displays a summary of files that it has erased, as well as a
  192.   total showing how much disk space was freed. Enter any words on the
  193.   command line after TIDY, and the program will search for files with
  194.   those extensions and delete them.
  195.  
  196.   You can specify default command line options in the environment
  197.   using the TIDY= variable.  For example, to default to "Ignore Zero
  198.   Length Files" and search for the extension "TMP" (in addition to the
  199.   default "BAK" extension" type at the command line:
  200.  
  201.                              SET TIDY=/Z TMP
  202.  
  203.   You can override the /Z by including /Z- at the command line,
  204.   although you can not suppress the TMP extension search without
  205.   clearing the environment variable.
  206.  
  207. EXAMPLES
  208.  
  209.   TIDY MAP
  210.  
  211.   tells TIDY to delete all .BAK fiels, as well as all .MAP files.
  212.  
  213.   You cannot specify global wildcards ("*" or "???" in the file
  214.   extension, but you can list up to 62 extensions to search for.
  215.  
  216.   Additionally, you can give TIDY a disk drive specifier to have the
  217.   program tidy that drive.  For example, to tidy up on the A: drive,
  218.   use TIDY A:.
  219.  
  220.   You can use the extensions and disk drive specifier in any order,
  221.   but the only restriction is that the specifier must contain the
  222.   colon and there must only be one specifier on a line.  So,
  223.  
  224.   TIDY A: MAP TMP  will perform identically to  TIDY MAP TMP A:
  225.  
  226.   The /C option will cause the program to prompt the user if the file
  227.   should really be deleted or not.  If the user enters Q, for quit,
  228.   the program exits and displays a status report.

  234.   Often we get calls from people asking questions that can be
  235.   solved easily by checking through the manual before calling tech
  236.   support. We ask that you browse the manual and look for information
  237.   pertaining to your particular problem before calling. This can often
  238.   save you time, as we take a collection of our most common questions
  239.   and try to address them in this manual.

  241.   We offer alternative methods besides the conventional phone
  242.   support, such as a multi-line 24-hour BBS system. We also monitor
  243.   most technical conferences in the BBS Interlink and RelayNet
  244.   networks as well as many conferences on the CompuServe
  245.   Information System. You may send messages and questions via any of
  246.   these services.

  248.   Currently our Tech Support office is staffed Monday through Friday
  249.   from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time. There is a chance,
  250.   however, that someone is in the office outside this time frame.
  251.   If so, we will gladly answer your questions outside the normal
  252.   business hours.  Registered users are given unlimited technical

  270.   This collection of utilities started out as a small set of home
  271.   grown tools that I just could not stand to live without.  Many times
  272.   someone would see me using them and ask for a copy.  This was a big
  273.   mistake.  All of the sudden I had to debug my code.  Someone would
  274.   call me up and remind me of some problem with a utility that I had
  275.   written or asked me to just add this one little feature.  Six years
  276.   later the package has evolved to its current state.  Along the way I
